The Church’s One Foundation
Lyrics
The Church’s one foundation
Is Jesus Christ, her Lord
She is his new creation
By water and the word
From heaven he came and sought her
To be his holy bride
With his own blood he bought her
And for her life he died
From darkness he has called her
Into his glorious light
With breath of life restored her
And made her his delight
That all the earth should wonder
At free, abounding grace
And hearts that can’t be numbered
Will join in endless praise
We do not see her glorious
We see her weak and poor
But she will be victorious
Her Saviour’s word is sure
No power on earth can claim her
For death has lost its sting
One gentle word will raise her
And she will meet her King
How happy are the humble
Whose hope is only Christ
He will not let them stumble
His word will be their light
How firm they are established
No earthly power can shake
When worldly hopes have vanished
The church of Christ remains
How firm they are established
No earthly power can shake
When worldly hopes have vanished
The church of Christ remains
